By  Fishing Phil

The weather bureau is warning tropical cyclone Plankton could bring heavy rain as it approaches the South Eastern hamlet of Manning Point in New South Wales.

The system is continuing to strengthen but the Bureau of Meteorology says heavy rain could cause flooding in low lying areas.

The bureau's Iva Bigbutt says it is a rare weather pattern but with winds expected to be gale force of 10 our of the arses of those blokes at the MPFC, it migh counteract the cyclone's ensuing damage.

"To have a tropical cyclone this far south at this time of year is something we haven't seen for a very, very long time and it will create an unusual day for March and the Manning Point Fishing Classic ," Miss Bigbutt said.
