2025 Dual Champions
The 2025 Manning Point Fishing Classic resulted in a tied finish with dual Champions named.
Hammah Head on Friday afternoon, and Kingfish, on Saturday morning, both displayed remarkable angling skills to land near similar 79cm flatheads off the river bank, sans net!
The judging committee couldn't split the two as they also caught a few other healthy fish. Well done Champions!
See KingFish landing his beauty with special commentary by cameraman, Mr Mahi Mahi.
The Pink Rod went to Ganghook for the first time. He and Mangrove spent most of Sunday morning napping on Clawdia in a very dirty, flooded river.
Rookie of the Year was a close run thing and went to Lungfish, who took on the role like a Champ. Do we tell him now that if no Rookie turns up again next year, he will fulfil the role again?
The Champion Team, and the new Trophy, went to Catch and Kill! Their mud crab skills were outstanding, and Admiral Lucky showed us all how to catch them and everyone went home with a big feed.
The Dougie went to BigJig for his superb efforts with both food (home-made jerky, pork pies and sausage rolls) as well as the new leaderboard he put together (and the L and R plates). Great job, Jig.
Special mention to Captain Bluering for all his beering - the kegerator is a treat and the Sharks Hazy was superb. Mangrove's Pilsner also went down well, almost as well as him emptying cans of Great Northern so people could try it.
Thanks to Fishin for the show bags (with contributions from BigJig and Lungfish) and the BBQ work. Lungfish also for the Saturday night BBQ and Jerkbait for consistent help.
Ganghook did a great job with prizes, chicken bait, sorting out food at Coopernook Pub (amazing food, beer and location) and other items that helped the event run smoothly. Sadly we finally got excellent food at the Bowlo and then discovered the chefs are leaving. Thanks to the Bowlo for the 11 trays of meat on Friday Night.
There were lots of other contributions across the board that really make this event easy to run when everyone puts in together. Thanks also to Haka for keeping me up to 2am on two nights and 1am on the other! A special note to thank Crash Pond (the Fisherman formerly known as Pacific) for towing up Clawdia. (And apologies to Tsunami).
Special thanks to sponsors, Arlam, Sotcomm and AVLabs, Austiger Conservation and especially Member Jungle. Thanks also to Method Brewing for looking after us with discounts on canned beers.
Great event gentlemen - thank you! It is always a joy to catch up with you all despite never being enough time for a detailed chat.
Oh yeah, it rained. A lot!
